Is It a Bank?

This plaza in front of this big bank in New York City just went through a $65,000,000 renovation.  Oh wait, that's not a bank; that is the greatest museum in North America, the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  This great arts institution just let one of its board members spend a heaping crap load of money on a rather mundane plaza renovation that makes no attempt to establish a dialogue with either the architecture of the building or the contents of said building.

This is still my favorite place to spend a Saturday evening drawing, but it is scary how the business side of the museum seems to be much more important than the art side.  The Met is a tourist trap that has only been pushing harder and harder to bring more and more bodies into an already crowded museum.

One positive about the renovation of the plaza was the improved lighting on the museum's facade.  It does look great.
