Back in Paris and trying to squeeze in time for drawing Michelangelo's Dying Slave (seen on the left behind the vitrine). For some reason there are no lights to speak of in this gallery. As the sun gets low the light gets very flat. However, just after putting my sketch book away a beam of light shot into the room, making this picture possible.
Having worked as museum preparator in a small museum with a sophisticated light system, I have learned a lot about lighting. It is my belief that lighting is by far the most important element in the presentation of art, yet sadly it is always the first thing that gets overlooked.
